Two AI platforms turn pathogen intelligence into global health infrastructure
The Pandemic Preparedness Engine and Global Pathogen Analysis Platform were presented as complementary global public goods.

What happened
At the 2026 Annual Meeting, the World Economic Forum announced two complementary AI-enabled health platforms designed as global public goods: the Pandemic Preparedness Engine (PPX) and the Global Pathogen Analysis Platform (GPAP).
PPX is designed to connect data across the vaccine-development lifecycle and use an agentic AI framework to accelerate analysis, evidence validation and vaccine design. GPAP focuses on turning pathogen data from human, animal, plant and environmental sources into standardized, actionable intelligence at scale.
Why it mattered
The development joined two agendas that are usually discussed separately at Davos: AI infrastructure and pandemic preparedness. Infectious-disease threats can disrupt trade, workforces, travel and investment as well as public health. Faster pathogen analysis and countermeasure development therefore have economic and national-security consequences.
The architecture matters too. Both initiatives emphasize federated access, data sovereignty and safeguards rather than simply centralizing sensitive biological information. That makes governance part of the product design, not an afterthought.
Who is behind it
PPX is a Forum-hosted and incubated project led by a secretariat including the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations, the University of Chicago and the European Vaccine Hub at the Sclavo Vaccine Association. GPAP is funded by the Novo Nordisk Foundation and established by the Technical University of Denmark with the University of Copenhagen, Statens Serum Institut and a wider consortium.

Editorial note
PPX and GPAP are treated as one canonical Davos development because the Forum announced them together as complementary parts of the same AI-enabled infectious-disease preparedness architecture.
