What happened
On 23 January 2026, the World Economic Forum said its Reskilling Revolution was on track to reach more than 850 million people, moving closer to its target of expanding access to skills, education and economic opportunity for 1 billion people.
The Davos announcement bundled several concrete commitments. More than 25 technology companies committed to expand AI access, skills training and job pathways for 120 million workers, while India launched a national skills Accelerator within a Forum-led network of 45 accelerators supporting 14.8 million people.
Why it mattered
The significance was the shift from broad debate about AI displacement toward measurable workforce commitments. Davos 2026 repeatedly framed technology adoption and human-capital investment as linked problems: productivity gains depend on workers being able to use new tools, while the transition itself creates pressure for faster reskilling.
For India, the new accelerator added a national mechanism to coordinate government, business and training efforts around future skills.
The Davos 2026 connection
The announcement came on the final day of the Annual Meeting and was one of the clearest quantified workforce outcomes of the week. It belongs primarily under Jobs, Skills & Society, with secondary relevance to AI & Technology and Countries & Diplomacy.
The Davos Collective treats the 850-million milestone, the 120-million-worker technology commitment and the India accelerator as one canonical Davos development because they were announced together as part of the same Reskilling Revolution package.
