What happened
The Forest Future Alliance launched during the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2026 as a platform for private-sector and philanthropic actors investing in forest landscapes.
The initiative succeeded 1t.org as the Forum’s focal platform for this work. Its purpose is to help investors navigate ecological, social and financial complexity while supporting conservation, restoration and long-term stewardship.
Why it mattered
Forests are simultaneously carbon sinks, biodiversity systems, economic infrastructure and sources of livelihoods. Yet investment structures frequently reward short-term extraction more readily than long-duration stewardship.
The Alliance brought that financing problem into the Davos economic agenda and framed forest protection as risk management for supply chains, communities and climate stability.
What to watch
Credibility will depend on capital mobilised, safeguards for Indigenous peoples and local communities, transparent measurement of ecological outcomes and durability beyond announcement-stage commitments.
